The Furore fjord — Italy's smallest beach

A 25-metre beach at the bottom of a deep, narrow gorge, accessed by 200 steps from the SS163 bridge.

The visit

Bus 5070 or 5050 from Amalfi stops at the bridge. The marked stairs descend 70 metres to the beach. There's no bar, no umbrellas, no rentals — just rocks, a fishing boat or two, and the sound of water.

Go at 10:00 to have the place to yourself; by 14:00 the boats arrive and the cove is busy. Pack lunch, leave nothing behind.

Where to stay

Our homes in Amalfi

The maritime republic that gave the coast its name — a striped duomo, paper mills tucked in a wooded gorge, and the quiet center of the Costiera.

    Walking the Sentiero degli Dei

The 'Path of the Gods' is a 7.8km cliffside trail above Positano. Done correctly — early morning, downhill direction, sturdy shoes — it's the highlight of a Coast trip.

Capri by boat — the Faraglioni loop

Skip the big cattle-boat tours. Hire a 6-person gozzo from Marina Grande for €350 split four ways. It's the right way to see Capri.
