The feast of San Gennaro — Naples' biggest day
September 19th, the city's patron saint's miracle. Whether you believe in the blood liquefaction is beside the point.

What happens
At 9:00 on September 19th, the Archbishop of Naples opens the silver tabernacle in the Duomo and brings out the vial of San Gennaro's coagulated blood. By 12:00 it has — usually — liquefied. The city erupts in cheers.
The Spaccanapoli procession follows. Stalls in the centro storico sell taralli and torrone. Restaurants are full but unhurried. Stay until midnight.
