Atrani — Amalfi's quieter neighbour

Three minutes' walk from Amalfi's main square is a separate village most day-trippers never reach.

Atrani — Amalfi's quieter neighbour

Why it's still quiet

Atrani's piazza is hidden behind an arched passage — you can drive past Amalfi and not notice it. The historic ducal church (San Salvatore de' Birecto) is where the doges of Amalfi were crowned in the 9th century.

Eat dinner at A' Paranza (one Michelin star, surprisingly affordable) or at the much simpler Risto Bar Risorgimento on the piazza. Sleep at the small B&Bs above the beach.

Where to stay

Our homes in Amalfi

The maritime republic that gave the coast its name — a striped duomo, paper mills tucked in a wooded gorge, and the quiet center of the Costiera.

There's no single right answer. The right transfer depends on your luggage, your group size, when you arrive, and where on the coast you're staying.
