Food

Mozzarella di bufala — where to taste it real

It's a southern Italian buffalo cheese, eaten within 24 hours, and you should eat it where it's made.

Where to stop

Driving from Naples to the Amalfi Coast, take the Battipaglia exit and visit Tenuta Vannulo. Organic farm, no shipping (so you have to eat it there), small museum of dairy tools. The 11:00 production tour ends with a tasting.

Heading north toward Caserta, Caseificio Polito in Aversa offers free tastings and is open until 19:00. Their treccia (braided mozzarella) is the regional specialty.

There's no single right answer. The right transfer depends on your luggage, your group size, when you arrive, and where on the coast you're staying.

You eat your way through Naples or you don't really visit it. Five stops, three hours, two pockets full of paper cones.
