Salerno — the most overlooked night on the coast

The medieval centre, the Norman duomo, the Lungomare Trieste, and the seafood every Salerno local eats.

Salerno — the most overlooked night on the coast

Why bother

The Lungomare Trieste is one of the loveliest seafront promenades in Italy — palms, benches, the Bay of Salerno, sunset at 18:30 in winter. The Duomo holds the relics of Saint Matthew in an 11th-century crypt.

Eat at Casa Mia (Via Mercanti) for spaghetti vongole and lemon delizia. Sleep at Palazzo San Vincenzo. Train to Naples airport in the morning is 45 min.

Where to stay

Our homes in Salerno

The often-overlooked Amalfi gateway — a real Italian seafront city with the medieval Scuola Medica, an arabesque cathedral, and the best ferry hub south of Naples.

There's no single right answer. The right transfer depends on your luggage, your group size, when you arrive, and where on the coast you're staying.
