New Café in Naples: Coco Loco Caffetteria Replaces La Caffettiera on Piazza dei Martiri
The Campajola family's 1982 Chiaia institution has changed hands to restaurateur Diego Nuzzo, reopening after a full renovation as a Paris-inspired bistro and cocktail bar, targeted for early September 2026.
What's changing at La Caffettiera?
La Caffettiera has anchored Piazza dei Martiri in Chiaia since 1982, run for decades by the Campajola family as one of the square's fixed reference points for coffee and pastries. It has now changed hands to Diego Nuzzo, the restaurateur behind the Coco Loco group — his third address in the neighbourhood, alongside the Coco Loco restaurant on Via Cappella Vecchia and the bistro on Via Calabritto.
The venue is closed for a full renovation over the summer break and is due back as Coco Loco Caffetteria & Restaurant, with a concept built around a Paris-Montmartre-style bistro and cocktail bar rather than a straight continuation of the old café format.
When does it reopen, and what will it serve?
The reopening is targeted for early September 2026, timed to the end of the summer closure. The new format widens the day: international-style breakfast and lunch service, a wine list, and an outdoor evening aperitivo on the piazza — stretching what was a daytime café into an all-day, into-the-evening address.
Piazza dei Martiri sits at the heart of Chiaia's shopping and aperitivo circuit, a five-minute walk from Via dei Mille and the Riviera di Chiaia seafront, so a reopened, later-running venue there is a useful addition for anyone based in the neighbourhood for an evening out.
