What exhibitions are on in Naples in summer 2026?
If you are planning museum time in Naples this summer, two shows are worth building a morning around. The first is OBEY: Power to the Peaceful, the Shepard Fairey retrospective at Gallerie d'Italia on Via Toledo 177. It gathers more than a hundred works — silkscreens and hand-finished prints — curated by Giuseppe Pizzuto, and it runs only until 6 September. Tickets are €8 full price, €4 reduced, and the museum is closed on Mondays. Via Toledo is on everyone's walking route anyway, so the practical move is to fold the show into a morning in the centro rather than making a separate trip of it.
The second is up the hill at Capodimonte: Emilio Isgrò's Canto Napoli, a run of his signature erased-text works built around the city itself, hangs in rooms 81 to 83 on the second floor through 29 September. The museum sits inside the Real Bosco, so arrive early, see the show first, then walk the park while the morning is still cool — in July, that ordering matters.
Longer summer hours at the Vomero museums
Quietly, the most useful change of the season is not an exhibition at all. From 1 July, the three museums on the Vomero hill — the Certosa di San Martino, Castel Sant'Elmo and the gardens of Villa Floridiana — extended their opening hours: roughly ninety minutes more per day at each site, which adds up to 27 extra hours a week across the three. If you have ever ridden the funicular up only to find the Certosa's cloister already closing, this is the summer that stops happening. It also makes a late-afternoon visit realistic, instead of having to squeeze all three sites in before lunch.
Which Naples shows are closing soon?
Set a reminder for Palazzo Reale: the show of kinetic and programmed art built around Alberto Biasi closes on 1 August. That makes it a last-week-of-July visit, not an August one — if you are reading this on arrival, it goes to the top of the list.
One closure has already happened: MANN's big spring exhibition on the Parthenope myth ended on 6 July. The museum itself is always worth the trip, but if that show was the specific draw, check what has replaced it before you go. And one last date to hold: 6 September for the Fairey retrospective at Gallerie d'Italia. Summer in Naples has a way of stretching — do not let it stretch past the closing dates.
