Naples Metro Hours Change, August 2026: Line 1 Night Service Suspended, Line 6 Closes Early
ANM has cut Line 1's Friday–Saturday night extension until 3 September and pushed Line 6's last train to early afternoon for two weeks — here's exactly what changes.
What's changing on Line 1?
ANM (Azienda Napoletana Mobilità) has suspended Line 1's Friday and Saturday night extension from 7 August to 3 September 2026, citing reduced summer staffing — a routine August adjustment on Naples' transit network, not a one-off closure. On the affected weekend nights the line reverts to its ordinary timetable: last train from Centro Direzionale at 23:00, from Colli Aminei at 22:36, instead of running past midnight. The extended weekend hours resume automatically from 4 September.
Separately, three stations on the line's northern branch — Piscinola, Chiaiano and Frullone — stay closed for engineering work through 13 September 2026, with replacement bus shuttles covering the gap. This doesn't touch the central stretch most visitors actually use: Museo, Dante, Toledo, Municipio and Garibaldi all run to the (now-ordinary) schedule.
What about Line 6, and how does this affect a trip to Chiaia?
Line 6, the short line linking Mergellina and Municipio along the seafront — the one many visitors use for the Riviera di Chiaia, the Villa Comunale and the aquarium — closes far earlier than usual from 10 to 23 August 2026: last train at 13:50 instead of its normal evening service. Anyone planning an afternoon walk or aperitivo along that stretch during those two weeks should treat Line 6 as a lunchtime-only option and switch to a bus along Via Caracciolo, or simply walk it — the seafront route is flat and pleasant on foot.
The Line 1 core route through the centro storico and the funicular network are both unaffected, so a normal sightseeing day around Toledo, Plebiscito and Spaccanapoli isn't touched by any of this. The changes bite mainly on late returns from dinner near Colli Aminei or Vomero, and on afternoon plans along the Chiaia seafront.
