What is Open House Napoli, and when is the 2026 edition?
Open House Napoli is a free architecture weekend, now in its eighth edition, running 2–4 October 2026. For those three days, roughly 140 buildings, courtyards and studios across the city — many of them private and never otherwise open to visitors — let people walk in and look around, no ticket and usually no guide required. It's part of the international Open House Worldwide network, the same model that runs in London, Barcelona and dozens of other cities each year.
The point isn't a single monument; it's the accumulation. Rationalist villas, convent cloisters, banks with marble halls, working architecture studios and ordinary apartment buildings with an unusual staircase all sit on the same list, which is exactly what makes it worth building a weekend around rather than picking one stop.
What can I actually see, and do I need to book?
Past editions have opened landmarks such as the Palazzo delle Poste on Via Monteoliveto and the Banca d'Italia building alongside dozens of lesser-known addresses; the full 2026 list — with opening hours per site and which ones need online registration versus which are walk-in — is published each September on openhousenapoli.org, ahead of the October weekend. High-demand sites tend to fill their slots fast once registration opens, so it's worth checking the site as soon as the list is live rather than waiting for the weekend itself.
How to plan a weekend around it
Early October is shoulder season in Naples — warm enough to walk all day, without August's crowds or heat — which makes it a comfortable weekend to pair with the usual sights: Spaccanapoli in the morning before the festival's queues build, one or two Open House stops in the early afternoon when they're least busy, and the evening free for dinner in the Quartieri Spagnoli or Chiaia. Since most sites are scattered across different neighbourhoods rather than clustered in one, picking two or three in the same area and walking between them works better than chasing addresses across the city.
