New Exhibition at Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, Naples: 'Doppia Scena' Through November 2026
Contemporary artist Nicholas Tolosa shows inside the Cappella Tolosa, the Renaissance chapel his own family funded five centuries ago — running to 20 November 2026.
What is 'Doppia scena' and where is it showing?
Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, the Renaissance monumental complex tucked into Piazzetta Monteoliveto just off Via Toledo, is hosting 'Doppia scena. Da Tolosa a Tolosa', a solo exhibition by contemporary artist Nicholas Tolosa, curated by Marco Di Capua. It opened on 26 June 2026 in the Sagrestia Vasariana and runs through 20 November 2026, first reported by NapoliMagazine.
The setting carries its own coincidence: the show is staged inside the Cappella Tolosa, a chapel built around 1492-95 for the Spanish merchant Paolo Tolosa, attributed to architect Giuliano da Maiano and decorated with Della Robbia terracotta roundels — a five-century-old space funded by a namesake family, now showing an artist who happens to share the name.
What else is worth seeing in the complex?
The exhibition is a reason to visit, but Sant'Anna dei Lombardi's permanent draw is the Compianto sul Cristo Morto, Guido Mazzoni's 1492 group of eight life-size terracotta figures mourning the dead Christ — one of Naples' great, and most overlooked, Renaissance sculptures, with the faces of Ferdinando I and Alfonso II of Aragon among the mourners. Pair the two: the Quattrocento sculpture in one chapel, a living artist's response in another, under the same roof.
Hours, tickets, and how to get there
The complex is open Monday-Friday 9:30am-6:30pm, Saturday 9:30am-6pm, and Sunday 12:30-5pm, with last entry half an hour before closing. Standard admission is €6 (€8 including the underground rooms), with reduced rates of €4-6 for under-26s, students, teachers, journalists, and Campania Artecard holders; the Tolosa exhibition itself is included in that same ticket, no separate charge.
Piazzetta Monteoliveto sits two minutes' walk from Via Toledo, between the Toledo and Municipio metro stops on Line 1 — an easy add-on to a morning around the Quartieri Spagnoli or Spaccanapoli before the afternoon heat sets in.
