What is Shepard Fairey's OBEY exhibition in Naples?
"OBEY: Power to the Peaceful" is the first Naples show dedicated to Shepard Fairey, the American street artist who built the OBEY Giant sticker-and-stencil campaign in the 1990s and later designed the red-and-blue Obama "Hope" poster that became one of the most reproduced images of the 2008 US election. The exhibition runs at the Gallerie d'Italia in Naples, the Intesa Sanpaolo bank's museum inside its Via Toledo 177 palazzo, and brings together more than a hundred works — posters, silkscreens and hand-finished prints — organised around the themes that run through Fairey's career: people power, propaganda, war and peace, and social justice.
The show has been on since early May 2026, so this isn't breaking news, but it closes on 6 September 2026 — under a month from now — which makes it a genuine now-or-never for anyone in Naples this summer.
What are the hours, and how much are tickets?
The Gallerie d'Italia is open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 19:00, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00; it's closed Mondays, and last admission is an hour before closing. Full admission is €8, reduced is €4, and entry is free for under-26s, school groups, and Intesa Sanpaolo banking customers. The museum sits directly on Via Toledo, a five-minute walk from the Toledo and Municipio metro stops, so it slots easily into a morning that also takes in the Quartieri Spagnoli or the seafront.
Is it worth fitting into a Naples trip?
It's a compact visit — plan on 45 minutes to an hour — which makes it easy to combine with the Gallerie d'Italia's own permanent collection or with a Via Toledo shopping stop, rather than needing a dedicated half-day. For anyone who knows Fairey only from the Obama poster, the range on display here is the appeal: the same visual language applied to labour movements, war and peaceful protest, spanning three decades of his output.
