America's Cup 2027 in Naples: which week to come, stage by stage
Two months of racing, one holiday. We rank the stages by what you see, who else turns up and how hard the bed is to find.

One week, one choice β how to read the calendar
With only one week for the America's Cup 2027 in Naples, the question is not which dates but which stage. The window is 22 Mayβ19 July 2027, with starts planned for 14:00 off the Lungomare Caracciolo, and each stage differs in boats, crowd and temperature. Our main guide has the full calendar; this is about choosing.
One hedge for the whole article: every stage date below comes from the planned calendar published in 2026, which includes reserve days and may change, and no individual race date exists. Whether the Lungomare Race Village stays open for the whole window is unknown, and as of October 2026 nothing had been published on 2027 tickets, grandstands or hospitality β the seafront and village were free in 2026 and are expected to stay free; check americascup.com.
The programme has gaps too: no AC75 racing on 2β8 June (the Youth America's Cup, in AC40s), 22β25 June (before the Final) or 5β9 July (the Women's America's Cup). A gap week is not wasted, but land on it on purpose.
Late May β the fleet weekend and the round robins
The opener on Saturday and Sunday 22β23 May is the one stage with all seven AC75s racing together. The organisers call it the first fleet racing for the class: six races planned over the weekend, the Defender outside the challenger standings, Monday in reserve.
Then volume. Round robin one runs Wednesday to Friday 26β28 May, round robin two Saturday to Monday 29β31 May with 1 June in reserve; each is 21 match races. Mostly weekday racing, before Italian schools break up: in our judgement the easiest beds of the summer and the calmest seafront. One check: Serie A ends on Sunday 30 May 2027; whether SSC Napoli is at home is unknown.
Weather, as long-term averages (Servizio Meteorologico dell'Aeronautica Militare, 1971β2000), not a forecast: May brings an average high of 23 Β°C, a low of 12.6 Β°C and about six rainy days; the sea is about 20.6 Β°C by month's end on WeatherSpark's model estimate. Who it suits: sailing fans wanting volume, anyone on a budget, first-timers learning the sport.
June β Youth week, repechage and semi-finals
The first week of June is the trap and, for some, the prize. There is no AC75 racing from 2 to 8 June: the Youth America's Cup sails its AC40s on 2β6 June, and 2 June 2027, the Festa della Repubblica, is a Wednesday, the window's only national holiday, so expect Italians to take a long weekend; Campania schools finish Tuesday 8 June. Families may want it; AC75 fans should not book it by accident.
Round robin three follows, Wednesday to Friday 9β11 June, then the repechage, Saturday and Sunday 12β13 June, Monday in reserve, and the semi-finals from Wednesday 16 to Sunday 20 June, first to five, reserve the 21st. Sail-World's summary says the semi-finals will not run past their end date: the stage that decides the finalists.
June, on the same 1971β2000 long-term averages: an average high of 26.7 Β°C, a low of 16.2 Β°C, about three rainy days. Who it suits: anyone wanting knockout drama while 14:00 on stone is still bearable.
Late June and July β the Final and the Match
The Louis Vuitton Cup Final is the first peak: Saturday 26 June to Sunday 4 July, first to seven, reserve days 28 June and 1 July; ACP's July 2026 announcement schedules 13 races and says it could finish 3β4 July β their phrasing, not a promise. If Luna Rossa is in it (nothing from 2026 counts), Naples will want the seafront. A rental agency (September 2026) expects the Final and Match weeks to be the most requested.
Then the Women's America's Cup on 5β9 July, AC40s with four-person crews, no AC75 racing. The Match starts on Saturday 10 July, Defender against challenger, first to seven, and ends by Monday 19 July at the latest depending on the scoreline, per the organisers' release of 28 September 2026. A Match week is a bet on the score.
This is also the heat. July, same 1971β2000 averages: an average high of 29.9 Β°C, a low of 18.8 Β°C, two or three rainy days and a Capodichino July record of 39.0 Β°C (1987). Naples was on red heat alert on 28β29 June 2025, 29 Juneβ1 July 2026 and 19β22 July 2026 β dates that overlap the 2027 Louis Vuitton Cup Final and Match windows a year earlier; a realistic risk, not a prediction.
On crowds, only precedents: the September 2026 preliminary drew 278,893 by the official count β local press put the opening Thursday, with no racing, at around 20,000; Sport e Salute counted 87,000 on the Saturday and more than 120,000 on the Sunday β so, on those day-by-day figures, weekends drew several times the weekday crowds β an inference, and the weekdays were school days. Who it suits: those who want to see it decided and can take 14:00 with no shade.
Our recommendation, plainly β and how to book it
First-timer wanting the whole show: the opening weekend into round robin one, 22β28 May β all seven boats together, then one-on-one matches. Sailing fan: the semi-finals, 16β20 June, or the Louis Vuitton Cup Final from 26 June, the first AC75 trophy of the summer.
Family: the Youth America's Cup week around 2 June β smaller boats, a holiday, Italian schools still in, no AC75 racing β or round robin two in late May if the children want big boats. Budget: round robin one or three, 26β28 May or 9β11 June, weekday-only racing when, in our judgement, apartments are easiest to find, though Campania schools close on 8 June. The Match, from 10 July, is for those who accept heat, an end date that depends on the scoreline (by 19 July at the latest) and, if the September 2026 preliminary is any guide β its final day, with the match-race final, drew the biggest crowd β the fullest seafront; no 2027 crowd forecast by stage exists.
Pick the stage, then book Naples nights for its whole window, reserve days included, and keep mornings free. In 2026 hoteliers quoted by local press said 2027 rates were not yet set: book the bed, not the grandstand. If Chiaia is full, our where-to-stay guide ranks the alternatives; we would take a worse view in the right week over a better one in the wrong.
