Where to stay in Naples for the America's Cup 2027 — area by area
Every neighbourhood is a trade-off between the Lungomare, your budget and a metro line. Here is how we would choose.

Start with the map — where the racing actually is
If you are deciding where to stay in Naples for the America's Cup 2027 (the Louis Vuitton 38th America's Cup, the first held in Italy), start with one fact: the course sits directly off the Lungomare Caracciolo, between Castel dell'Ovo and Posillipo, with the AC75s passing just metres from shore. Racing is planned for 22 May–19 July 2027, starting at 14:00: the Louis Vuitton Cup (the challenger selection) 22 May–4 July, with the Youth America's Cup on 2–6 June (per the America's Cup Partnership announcement of 28 September 2026) and the Women's America's Cup on 5–9 July, then the Match from 10 July, which, depending on the scoreline, ends by 19 July at the latest according to the same announcement.
Second fact: the team bases are not on the Lungomare. They are being built at Bagnoli, about 10 km west, with a free AC Tech FanZone, and are due to be completed over winter 2026–27, with teams expected from January 2027. Bagnoli is for dock-outs and big screens; the Lungomare is for the racing itself. Decide which matters more.
As of October 2026 no ticketing, grandstand or hospitality prices or on-sale dates have been published; the Lungomare and Race Village were free in 2026 and are expected to remain free — check americascup.com.
Chiaia, Mergellina and Posillipo — seafront and hill
Chiaia and the Lungomare, with Santa Lucia around Castel dell'Ovo, are the obvious answer and, according to estate agents quoted by Il Mattino, the most expensive one. You step onto Via Caracciolo, home of the 2026 Race Village and the planned 2027 main stage; in race weeks expect noise, crowds and, the local press says, long car-free stretches, though the Comune has not approved a 2027 traffic plan. The same agents already talk of 30–40% rises in short-let demand and prices here; budget accordingly.
Mergellina, at the Lungomare's western end, is our quieter alternative: Line 6 and Line 2 stations, the Mergellina funicular up to Posillipo (closed as of October 2026 with a replacement bus — check anm.it), and a flat walk of about 20 minutes along the seafront to Rotonda Diaz. One caveat: Line 6 currently stops at 14:50 at weekends, and the September 2026 regatta's late service was a one-off, so check ANM's 2027 timetable.
Posillipo, the hill above, suits those who want the whole course from a terrace rather than one boat up close; Via Petrarca and Via Orazio give exactly that. The trade-offs: it is steep, apartments are fewer, and you depend on buses, with the Mergellina funicular closed for now — better for couples with no fixed schedule than families with a pushchair.
Vomero and the centro storico — cooler and cheaper
Vomero is where many Neapolitan families put visiting relatives in summer. It feels a few degrees cooler than the seafront, three funiculars drop you into Chiaia or the centre in minutes, and the Certosa di San Martino terrace is the view at the top of this page, with the race area just out of shot to the right. Official America's Cup media list it among the free elevated viewpoints, though you see the shape of a race, not the detail.
The centro storico is the city's best value and where the food is best. From Via Toledo the Lungomare is 20–30 minutes on foot, or one stop on Line 1 to Municipio, where you change for Line 6 and the port. You trade a sea view for a city living its own life. In September 2026 the Comune approved a per-building cap on tourist lets in parts of the old centre; as of October 2026 it is not in force, but trade bodies like AIGAB warn it could reduce supply and are considering an appeal.
Fuorigrotta and Bagnoli — the bases, not the racing
If you work the event or want to be at the bases every morning, Fuorigrotta and Bagnoli are practical rather than pretty. The Cumana from Montesanto stops at Bagnoli about every 15 minutes and Line 6 starts at Mostra. Rents are lower than on the seafront, according to estate agents quoted by Il Mattino and Stylo24, and the trade body Aigo Confesercenti counted requests to open new B&Bs in Bagnoli up about 30% in 2025 — requests, not bookings.
Be clear about the limits. The fan experience at Bagnoli is behind the bases — simulators, team shops, bars — not in the yards in front of the hangars, and you cannot see live racing from here. Line 2 west of Campi Flegrei has been suspended since June 2026 with replacement buses and, as of early October 2026, had not reopened; the new Porta del Parco stop is targeted for May 2027 but not confirmed. Check the ANM, EAV and Trenitalia timetables before travelling.
Further out, and when to book
Out of town works better than expected: Pozzuoli is on the Cumana, and Procida and Ischia are a hydrofoil from Molo Beverello or a slower car ferry from Calata Porta di Massa, about a 15-minute walk further east or a free shuttle. Sorrento hydrofoils leave from Beverello too. In September 2026 a harbour ordinance closing the race area added roughly 10 minutes to Ischia and Procida hydrofoils and 20 to ferries, with no cancellations; nothing is published for 2027.
In September 2026, for a four-day preliminary regatta, Federalberghi reported Naples hotels close to sold out, and Sport e Salute, the government's implementing body, forecasts 3–3.5 million visitors over the 62-day 2027 programme. Hoteliers say 2027 rates are not set; the rental figures you read are estate-agent estimates, not market data. Book 6–9 months ahead, expect minimum stays to rise for the Louis Vuitton Cup Final and the Match, and treat 10–19 July as the hardest stretch.
Book directly with a licensed host: every short-term rental in Italy must show its CIN code in the listing, and since a November 2025 Consiglio di Stato ruling hosts must identify you in person or by live video before giving you a key code. Add the tourist tax, €6 per person per night for short-term rentals at 2026 rates, capped at 14 consecutive nights; 2027 rates are not published. Naples apartments book out early for event weeks; our team at Vesuview lives here and would pick a neighbourhood now and worry about the calendar later.
